This is the U.S. Army Military History Institute at Carlisle Barracks. While browsing, briefly, through the site, they did have a section on insignia.

Grandmother - Margaret Laura YOUNG (nee GAYNOR ) from Northeast Philly.
Photo - Kepi has the letter B, defintely Union, I have a scanned image but
the details are not the clearest. I can send to anyone who may be
interested in seeing it. The picture's outer case has no markings.
