Judith,

Hayes Mechanics' Home was a retirement home whose objective was to
provide "a retreat and home for disabled or aged or infirm and
deserving mechanics". The men had to be over 60 years old who had
worked by mechanical labor of any kind for at least 20 years and was
an American - born or naturalized. Established in 1861 it was located
on Belmont Avenue, near Bala Cynwyd.
