Yes, besides Gross's Lives of Eminent American Physicians and Surgeons
(Philadelphia, 1861), there is the Directory of Deceased
American Physicians, 1804-1929, for which I do not have publica-
tion information. However, it is in the Conn. State Library in
Hartford under call no. R 712.a1 D47 1993. It not only provides
complete details of the physician's professional life, but also contains
a reference to the JAMA obituary notice, if there was one.
