My ancestry is of French descent, but never have I been able to track down my heritage. My GGGGfather was a Joseph (?) Petot who came to America from France in the first part of 1800 probably thru the Port of New Orleans or New York. He was a milliner and traveled between New York and New Orleans. He married an English girl, Eliza Spencer Smith (daughter of Thomas & Elizabeth Spencer), on May 15, 1827...probably in New Orleans. If you have any information on him or his family in France please let me know.
