Anyone who has searched for marriages in/around Malone – Constable
areas, Franklin County, NY has encountered the problem of towns
retaining their own marriage data and not sharing with county agency.
Can be expensive as Malone charges $22 for a search, other towns
slightly less – still very expensive even if nothing is found (they keep
the $22 as a search fee). I recently found out the law required marriage
info to be reported to the Franklin County Clerk during the years 1908 –
1935. The found index (Mormon LDS microfilm #864,408) lists only the
name of one individual (male or female), marriage date, and the
Certificate #. If you know the spouse’s name, you can cross-ref in the
index. If not, you must send for a copy of the marriage (hoping it’s
your person wanted) to obtain the spouse’s name and all pertinant data.
