GRANDPA PARENT DIES AND OTHER THINGS
Current mood: exhausted
Category: Blogging

Left @ 8:40am, pulled in to the hotel in Wisconsin @ 9:45pm. Yikes.

Found out tonight that my Grandfather couldn't read. He left school at 4th grade as a dsylexic. He had worked for American Motors in Kenosha Wisconsin on the assembly line when my father was born in '52. By the time Dad was 2, they moved back here to Ashland, and started working for the city apparently. Had four kids by '62, and had a great sense of humor and a way of telling stories that people are talking about here tonight.

They've all gone to bed though, and now I'm raiding the internet for pictures to send out, and some where to put all these events down to remeber.

I have all 4 female cousins here: Jamie, 20 {was Pre- Med and Pre-Law, now education major}, her sister Kelsey,17 {SENIOR and don't call her Jr.} There's Christie, 23 {married and was out til 3 am last night] and her sister Camie, 21{also married} and my sister Krissy 15

Not trying to creep you out, but here's his funeral announcement:
Gordon Parent, 77, Gordon Lane Francis Parent, age 77, of 1412 East Fifth Street, Ashland, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2005, at Ashland Health & Rehabilitation Center in Ashland. Gordy was born Sept. 4, 1928, in Ashland, the son of Alfred and Emma (Goodreau) Parent.

In 1951 he was united in marriage to Virginia I. Rogers at Ashland. He retired from the Ashland Sewage Utility in 1987 after 34 years of service as operator and foreman. He owned his own repair service named Parent’s General Repair up until 1986. He also worked as a serviceman for Sears Roebuck Company through I 986. He served on the Ashland Water Commission from 1990 to 1995. He also poured coffee at the PTA! The days and years with his family and friends were a cherished gift. He loved being with his family and loved to touch the lives of others. He especially loved camping and the Hodag Country Fest. Gordon always had a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face. He enjoyed repairing or rebuilding anything and everything. He always said he was "A jack of all trades, and master of none." Anyone who knew him knew he was actually a master of many.

Gordon is survived and sadly missed by daughters: Diane (John) Miskulin of Ashland and Carol Parent-Paulson of Chippewa Falls; sons: David (Brenda) Parent of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Allen (Sheri) Parent of Rochester, New York; brothers: Warren (Patricia) Parent of Ashland and Howard Parent of Columbus, Ohio; sisters: Geraldine (Robert) Korpela of Ashland, Jeannette (Jerry) Wortruba of Ashland, Marlene (Donald) Molis of Iron River, Joanne (Bud) Weiss of Two Rivers, and Maranne (Ludwig) Gagnath of Eau Claire; his special friend, Juliet Jack of Ashland; 13 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and multiple nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant brothers, brothers Elman, Wallace and Raymond Parent, and a sister Edwina (Norman) Flom.

A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday at the Mountain Funeral Home in Ashland with Father Frank Folino, O.F.M. officiating.

Interment will take place at Saint Agnes Cemetery, Ashland at a later date.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home in Ashland and continue until the hour of service.
