The Evangelical Church and the Reformed Church merged in 1934 to become
the Evangelical and Reformed Church. In 1956 they merged with the
Congregational Christian Church to become the United Church of Christ.
I have a 1946 Yearbook of the Evangelical and Reformed Church.
There was a St John's Church in St John's, PA (a town I have not
previously heard of)
There was an Oley [Reformed] Church in Oley called Friedens, which seems
to have been served by the same pastor as a St John's Church in Oley.
There was also a Salem in Spangsville and a New Jerusalem in Mertzville
which may have been served bu the same pastor.
I have not belonged to that denomination for quite some time, and I may
be reading things wrong, but it does look like 3 different
congregations, probably all small, and possibly all served by the same
pastor. That would confuse the issue no end.
