Laney, On your CD do you have any record of Abraham or Abram Artley or Erdley? He was born in 1800 in Reading, Berks Co., PA. From your notes, his first name could have been John, Johann, Henry, or Heinrich as those were earlier first names of my ancestors from Germany and early PA records. I think he would have been baptized in the Lutheran church in Reading. I have a feeling that he was son of Jacob Artley or Erdley and mother's maiden name Esther Yost. I have no definite proof as to Abraham parents but am hoping a baptismal record might show positive parents names. The only ancestor living in the Reading area I have found was Jacob.
I agree with your statement regarding middle names as most of my ancestors used their middle names, as I do, but for me I was not a Junior and since my father went by Forrest, I went by F. Warren Artley. I have traced my ancestors back to 1675 in Germany to a Johann Heinrich Erdle, whose son went by his middle name of Henry Artley, Americanized spelling.
Thank you for any help you can give me.

Janet,
It was a custom with German's to give their children 2 names, and then they
went by the middle name. For example your George Schall was actually John
George, and if he had any brothers their first name would also be John. So I
am willing to bet that your Elizabeth given name was Catherine Elizabeth and
she went by Elizabeth.
Also many were named for their sponsors. For the birth of your Catherine
Elisabetha the sponsors were Georg Kuntz and Elisa Margretha.
I have the sponsors for the other births if you are interested.
Also anyone out that would like a look up I have a CD of church records
1600-1800, of Berks, Bucks, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Phildelphia, and
York Counties.
Laney
