Hi again everyone!

Thanks for the feedback on opening up a branch group on Facebook. I appreciate any and all thoughts on this as it will be a new and unique experience for our internet family.

To answer a few questions that came up.

*No. This is far from being dead. In fact, we just picked up some new people recently.
*The current list is not being shut down or being transferred. We're staying put and we'll always remain here at Rootsweb until RW decides to shut us down for some strange reason.
*We're not going out like the newspaper is. At least I hope not. My father receives a pension from one. :-)
*The neat thing about Facebook is that its FREE to join and use. At least I haven't found anything yet you need to pay for.
*Facebook is very customizable. You can block certain applications and people and you can fix it so your name doesn't come up in site searches. I think there's even a option where you can just go by a username and not have to use your real name. You can even customize your own page to organize it into what you post and your friends postings to you as separate pages. I'm very impressed with how flexible the system is.
*Your profile only becomes visible when you become a friend with somebody else. That's another feature I really like and appreciate.

In short, like our website, our own Facebook group would be another venue for our group to have fun and to educate people on the ways of the PA Dutch.

The two groups can co exist very nicely. In fact we may even pick up some new people.

I think its worth a try.

Thanks! :-)

Rick

Hi Rick & Everyone!

I've been on Facebook since Feb. after my high school classmate, who is a lawyer, suggested I join. I figured if it was alright for a lawyer it was alright for me. There are several genealogy pages there;probably some I don't know about yet. I also have found several old high school classmates, genealogy buddies & family members I haven't been able to see for years. I've really enjoyed it! For fun I've been playing some of their farm games. For me the games are a good stress reliever. www.Facebook.com

I've joined another new website this month. It's called www.genealogywise.com
It was advertised as "Facebook" for genealogists. It's also free. I found a distant cousin(who I didn't know about)on one of my lines within two days of me joining this website. It's really new. If memory serves it will officially launch tomorrow. This website will only focus on genealogy. I like both of them! Both are easy to sign up in my opinion.

Pam in IN.
