If Paces were Catholic, they were most likely Italian Paces, although there
may have been others. My Paces were Baptist back to at least the
Revolution. I got a kick out of one Pace book that said my Francis Pace,
recorded at one point as Francis X Pace, was probably "Francis Xavier." My
Baptist ancestors would sooner name their kids Judas Iscariot than to name
him after a Catholic saint. Francis apparently couldn't write his name
either due to illiteracy or to being incapacitated,and signed his name with
an X, and someone wrote "Francis Pace" on both sides of the X.

Note my previous email about Italian Paces marrying English Paces.
