Hello List,
I had just sent this message to the list, and then
realized that I had unsubscribed awhile ago, so I
wasnt sure it went thru.
Anyway, Im trying to connect with the others on the
list that were researching Fred and Penelope Pace of
Port Huron, MI. Actually Fred was born in 1807 in NJ,
and Penelope was either from NY or Canada. I believe
there daughter Sarah is the same Sarah Pace that was
my great-great-great grandmother and married Thomas
Dunford in Port Huron. Id like to connect with the
others to see if there may be any additional info now
known on Fred and Penelope.
Im going to copy a message I sent to a distant Pace
cousin of mine as well that sheds a little light on
how I figured out my Sarah Pace was the same Sarah
Pace that was born to Fred and Penelope:
-----
Hi Kaye,
Remember how we thought that Hannah and Sarah Pace (2
Paces that married different lines of my family in
Port Huron) possibly could have been sisters, then I
discovered that Sarah who was the brother of Hannah
and William (daughter of David & Catherine) couldnt
have been MY Sarah Pace, because she died young (about
25), and I had pics of my Sarah when she was at least
in her 40s?
Well, that mystery had sat on the self for awhile
because I was at a brick wall. Well, over this last
week, some folks in Port Huron were helping me gather
info on my Dunfords (Sarah Pace married Thomas
Dunford). They got me photos of their headstones, and
it turns out that Sarah was born in 1842 (not 1845 as
I had thought). This would STILL match up with the
Sarah that was the daughter of our David and
Catherine, but there was still that stickler that we
knew their Sarah died in 1870, and my Sarah died in
1895.
Well, I was looking thru some old census images that I
had saved, and I ran across the old 1860 Census image
of Fred and Penelope Pace (and their 16-18 children).
I remember that I had saved it because I thought they
were likely connected to our Paces somehow. I looked
down the list, and sure enough, there was a Sarah, 18
years old (which means she would have been born in
1842 like my Sarah).
I still wasnt too sure because I had an image of an
1880 census where my Sarah had her father listed as
being from PA, and I knew that Fred Pace was from NJ.
Well, the people that had been helping me with my
Dunfords sent me a copy of the 1894 Michigan Census,
and it lists my Sarahs father as being from NJ!!! I
had a feeling there might have been a mistake on the
1880 info because they had mistakes on Sarahs sons
parents place of birth (Fred Dunford) as well. It
also makes sense because Sarahs only child Fred
Dunford, is named Fredprobably named after her
father Fred Pace!
Also, Im almost positive Fred Pace and David Pace
must have been brothers or cousins or something,
because we know from Davids death cert. that his
father was from NJ.
Scott
