Subject: [PACE-L] Paces in Indiana in 1880

BarbPace (<A HREF="mailto:"></A>) asked about AlbertLewis Pace, the grandfather of
her husband James Pace. Albert was b. 1861 and died in 1920 in GasCity,
Indiana.

Barb:
It appears that Albert is on the 1880 census of Grant Co, IN, Mill Twp. The
census shows:
Pace,William J. 46 VA VA TN
Pace, Marcy Jann wife 45 IN ? VA
Pace, Elverton son 22 IN
Pace, John R. son 20 IN
Pace, Albert L. son 17 IN
Pace,Sara daughter 15 IN
This was the only Albert Pace in IN in 1880.

William J. was probably the William James Pace on the 1850 census of Madison
Co, IN,Fall Creek Twp. That census reads:
Pace,Joseph 46 VA
Pace,Jane 47 OH
Pace,William James 16 ?
Pace,Virginia 14 ?
Pace,Robert 12 ?
Maris,Jane F. 18
I don’t know the relationship of Jane Maris but she could be a daughter of
Jane by a previous marriage. This record is from a transcription by Bruce
Howard which does not show the birth states for the children. You should
check the actual census record at your nearest Family History Center.

It is possible, although I have no specific evidence to support it, that this
Joseph was the Joseph Pace who was a son of Newson Pace of Henry Co, VA.
Newson named Joseph in his will but his birth year, spouse and children are
unknown to me. Newson was b. 1754 in Amelia Co, VA, d. 8/19/1845 in Marshall
Co,KY, m. Mary Polly Nunn in 1790 in Henry Co, VA. They had 8 children.
Some of Newsom’s grandchildren were in Indiana in the 1880’s

Note that William J. Pace in 1880 shows his mother as born in TN, whereas
Jane, wife of Joseph, was reportedly born in OH. But this sort of discrepancy
in census records is common.
Does anyone else have information on this family?
Gordon W. Pace
