I'm so glad there are some people in the area who can help with Mt.
Moriah. Unfortunately I'm in NW Oregon and can't be part of such a thing,
but I'll cheer you on from here. I've mentioned before, but will do so
again...my ancestor who is supposed to be buried at Mt. Moriah is Abel
Morgan. He was born in Wales in 1673 and died in Philadelphia in 1722. He
came to America in 1712 as a Baptist minister to establish churches in
Philadelphia and also in New Jersey and Delaware. He wrote the first Welsh
concordance to the Bible, and published many papers and sermons, many
printed by Benjamin Franklin. He and his brother and nephew were held in
high regard and importance in the history of the early church in America.
He was originally buried at the Pennepek Baptist Church if I remember
correctly, but his remains were moved to Mt. Moriah and there is supposed
to be a monument erected to him. I don't know when he was moved.
If anyone happens to stumble across this, I would love it if you could get
a photo. We went to the cemetery once to try to find his grave, but
unfortunately arrived too late and the gate was locked. I don't know when
I will ever get back there again. I'm so sorry this place is in such
disrepair, but it sounds like there is a good start on a grassroots
movement to change things. Good for you!
