VILLAGE RECORD

Marriage On the battle field of Gettysburg, on the 3d inst.,
Corporal << THOMAS SPACKMAN>> , of Co. A, 1st Penna. Res., aged
about 20 years, and son of George and Jane Spackman, of West
Chester.... When but little more than 18 years of age, this
young man entered the service of his country, prompted by no
other than patriotic motives, and a willingness to lend to the
government a helping hand to quell the rebellion. He was a
cousin to James Hanover Baldwin, whose death was announced but
a few days ago, from wounds received at the storming of
Vicksburg. Both these young men left comfortable homes to go
forth to battle for a bleeding country, and both have fallen.
They passed through many severe battles, and we have no word
of either having every faltered in the full discharge of a
soldierduty. They fought like heroes, and have died young
martyrs for libertycause....[CW]
