Subject: [PA-BRADFORD-CO-HIST-SOCIETY] John Fosburgh (1806-1872) -
searchingfor parents
Hello:
I am searching for information about the parents of John Fosburgh, b. 1806
in New York; m. Betsey GOODRICH ca 1828, likely in New York; d. 1872 in
Gillett, Bradford Co., Pennsylvania; parents unknown.
Betsey GOODRICH, b. 1805 in New York, d. 1880 in South Creek Twp., Bradford
Co., Pennsylvania. Betsey was likely the daughter of James Goodrich and
Selinda PAINE. John and Betsey GOODRICH Fosburgh are interred in Fries
Cemetery, Columbia Cross Roads, Bradford Co., Pennsylvania.
1828 - The family of Betsey GOODRICH was residing near the northeastern
boundary of Delaware Co., New York about the time of John's marriage to
Betsey. So, I'm guessing John Fosburgh's family may have resided in
Delaware,
Greene, or Schoharie counties ca 1828.
1830 - John and Betsey GOODRICH Fosburg are enumerated in Towanda, Bradford
Co., Pennsylvania, together with daughter Harriet, born 1829 in New York.
1840 - John and Betsey GOODRICH Fosburg are enumerated in Columbia Twp.,
Bradford Co., Pennsylvania.
1850 - John and Betsey GOODRICH Vosburg are enumerated in Springfield Twp.,
Bradford Co., Pennsylvania.
1852 - the oldest son of John and Betsey traveled to Owego, Tioga Co., New
York to be married in 1852. His name was James P. Fosburgh and his bride
was Martha LOOMIS. Martha's family resided in Troy, Pennsylvania, so I
theorize they married in Owego because relations (ancestors?) of James P.
Fosburgh resided there. The Fosburgh males residing in Owego ca 1850 are
Adam (b.
ca 1776 in NY), Peter (b. ca 1799 in NY), and James (b. ca 1811 in NY).
The surname of Fosburgh also appears as Vosburgh, Vosburg, Fosburg, and
sometimes Forsburg. In John's last will and testament, and on his
gravestone,
his surname is spelled "Fosburgh."
Any help with the parentage of John Fosburgh (1806-1872) would be much
appreciated. He is my paternal 3rd great-grandfather.
