Subject: [OWENS] Mosbey Owens - Buncombe Co., NC
Date: Mon, 5 Feb 2007 22:08:00 -0500
On "First Families of Old Buncombe Co" is a list of people who have been proven to be among the first families - Mosbey Owens is listed.
Last Friday, I emailed their genealogical society asking if they had information on Mosbey's wife and children. Here is the response from one of the society members:
I checked the Mosbey Owen file today, but didn't find a lot there to help you. Here is what I did find in re" to Mosbey's family:
Mosbey Owen b bef 1755; marriage unknown; died abt 1830 in Franklin Co., IL.
His son was Wilson Owen, b 1774-1784; married to Martha "Patsey" Gooch in Buncombe Co., NC, date unknown. He died July 1832 in Lexington, MO. In his will, Wilson appoints "my brother Abel Owen" as executor.
Also there was a deed in 1799 in Buncombe Co. for Abel Owen and Mosbey is a witness on it. So that will of Wilson did prove that Abel was also the son of Mosbey.
There were possibly many other children, but these were the only ones shown in his line on this application. Sandy J co-chair FFOB
