I just got hit by a new one on me. I got a phone call claiming to be from a
government offiice, saying the government owes me money on my taxes. They
do, so I continued to talk to the person, gave them my acct. # (I have
direct deposit) then he informed me my acct. would be debited $301.76 on May
6 to pay the lawyer for filing the claim foor me. I said hold on, no it
won't, and called my bank. I had to change my acct. #, and block debits on
the old #. If anyone calls you about money owed you, or government grants,
or money from a relative in a foreign bank, HANG UP!!!!!!!!! Or just tell
them you are reporting the scam to the police. The one who called me was
Prime Consultants. They really sounded legit until he said they were
debiting my acct. Then it hit me............the govt. dooesn't go hunting
people to whom they owe money, only the ones who owe them. And they don't
"qualify " you for a grant before you apply for one. So be careful,
folkses, the SCAMMERS are on the move again. And, as usual, they are
targeting people on SS and SSI.
