Pneumonia, suddenly and unhoped for in Petkum, as he returned home from the
canal near Stickhausen, where he went to a few weeks ago to work on, to
recuparate with his family from the disease that struck him a few days
before; 45 years old, in the morning before the service.

hitzigen Krankheit litt is high fevered disease. Typhoid mostly.

Could someone help me translate this in a way that makes more sense than
what Google translator tells me:

nebst andern von hier daran zu arbeiten, wieder nach Haus zurück kehrte, um
von der Krankheit, die ihn einige Tage vorher befallen hätte, bei den Seinen
hieselbst wieder zu nesen; 45 J, morgens vor d. Predigt

Another question: does hitzigen Krankeit refer to a quickly advancing
disease or does it mean a high-fever disease?
