Priscilla Caretto


Priscilla Caretto, 63, of Manteca, Calif., formerly of Newport, Ore., died March 8, 2011.

She was born Oct. 18, 1947 in Colfax, W. Va. She grew up in Painesville, Ohio and then ventured out to the West coast and settled in Lowell, Ore. She was a stay-at-home mom who studied and earned her certificate, working as a certified nurses aide. Priscilla followed her calling and, in 1988, she moved to Newport, where she worked as an elderly caretaker and a salmon fisherwoman. She lived in Newport until 2005. For the past six years she had been living in Manteca, where she had a positive impact on her circle of friends and neighbors.

She was an old soul, who would always give and never take; a woman who found peace and beauty in every living thing. She had a green thumb and loved cooking, making music and poetry. She lived for helping others and those who came in contact with her were better for it.

She is survived by her son, Gabriel (Cindy) of Elk Grove, Calif.; grandsons, Wesley and William of Raleigh, N.C.; and Gabe's father, Terry, of Eugene.
