John L. Ostendorp
John Leland "Lee" Ostendorp died June 3, 2005, at age 89.
He was born Oct. 17, 1915, in Ransom, Kansas. He grew up in the Portland area and graduated from Tigard High School in 1935. He married his high school sweetheart, Lela May Tooze, on Nov. 21, 1937. They were married for 67 years. She preceded him in death August 2004. They lived in Lincoln City for 50 years where he worked as a Shell Oil distributor and for Oceanlake Sand & Gravel. He was active in community organizations as a volunteer fireman, school board member, PTA president, and as a member of the Elks Lodge and Lions Club. They moved to Portland in 1996 to be closer to their daughters.
Survivors include son Gary Ostendorp of Anchorage Alaska; daughters Karen Sundstrom of Gresham and Christie Ostendorp of Portland; sisters and brothers-in-law Gladys Hasselbrink of Kenniwick, Wash., Art and Ruth Tooze of Lincoln City, Dick Tooze of Beaverton, Marge Goldhammer of Portland; and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Mr. Ostendorp will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 11 at the Community of Christ, 13855 S.W. Pacific Hwy., Tigard.
