Clifton A. Gross


Clifton A. Gross, 93, of Lincoln City, died Sunday, May 29, 2005.

He was born May 18, 1912, in Belfast, Maine to Clifton and Lena (Davis) Gross, graduated from high school in Belfast, then graduated from Cornell University in New York.

Mr. Gross lived in Los Angeles, Calif., and then New York City for a short time before returning to Los Angeles.

He worked for Bank of America as a personnel director and later opened his own business in Beverly Hills, Calif., making and selling custom lampshades. He sold the business and moved to Seattle, Wash., where he worked for U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, where he met his life partner, Warren Owen.

They moved back to Los Angeles where he was involved in his own business. He later sold these businesses and bought a motel in Lake Shasta, Calif. After that he moved to Newport, where he purchased the Viking Motel, retiring in 1983, then moving to Salishan, and afterwards made his home at Coronado Shores.

Preceding him in death was Warren Owen, life partner, who died in 2001.

Surviving is a sister, Alma Whittaker of Upton, Mass., and a son Craig Rawle of Lincoln City.

Private family services have already been held, with interment by cremation.

Pacific View Memorial Chapel in Lincoln City handled the arrangements.
