Steve and others with an interest:
Subscription is what paid for these atlases to be made. At the back of
each one is a listing, by township, of the people who subscribed to the
atlas - if your ancestor's name isn't there, then he/she didn't
subscribe. Most people didn't - why should they pay good money just to see
their own name in print - who'd want to buy an atlas to see THAT? Thank
goodness those few who DID subscribe, did so! These atlases are so
valuable in research today, not just genealogical research, but historical
as well.
