Hello Catt,
I can see that your family of interest can be found in the 1861
census for Scarborough, York County. This is the earliest they can be
found online in the Canada census. From this, you see the children
were born in the US. I don't see any Ontario marriage or death
registrations for the family that give the name of the US birthplace
where you could look there for marriage or birth records. Some Ontario
marriage registrations and later census for the younger children
contradict the US birthplace but for sons Clark and David it seems
positive. It is unlikely you will find any more Ont records unless
you dig into records that aren't online. Clark married in 1861 to
Mary Sheridan. His marriage is not online. It appears in the County
Marriage Register for Ontario County but is missing from the online
databases (Ancestry) . You could look it up on microfilm FHL US/CAN
Film 1030062 vol 45 ref 1: 141. It might give a birthplace. Clark
is the son that moves to Orillia and becomes Roman Catholic. You
could also see what the church burial record is for him in Simcoe
County.
The 1876 marriage record for William John Crandall, 1881 &1891 census,
and his 1895 death record say he was born in Ontario. That puts the
family's arrival in Ontario in the range 1839 -1844. So you are out of
luck for both 1850 US and 1851 Canada census since there doesn't seem
to be one for Scarborough.
Often when I am stuck, I see if I can duplicate the research found in
an online tree for my person of interest. Be flexible with William's
birth year . Your family can be found on a Worldconnect database on
Rootsweb as "Descendants of Elder John Crandall". See
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:3

This tree gives William and son Clark as born in Petersburg NY. Early
generations came from Rhode Island. If Ann is Clark's mother then a
marriage may be in that NY county of Rensselaer and you should go to
the Rensselaer County Genweb and mailing lists to find where records
are.
Another important fact from this 1861 census is that you have names of
some of the Hueston family, maybe/maybe not Ann's mother and 2
siblings but they are names you can check for in Rensselaer too.
Sometimes bible records can be misleading. You don't know when the
entries were made in the bible even though the bible was published
quite early. It could have been at the time of the event or 50 years
later when memories weren't as good. Sometimes the handwriting and
ink is a clue.
Hope this helps
Joanna
