Guess only. An attempt to verify the deceased is the person born with that
name? It would certainly reduce fraud/identity theft.

Subject: [ONTARIO] birth registrations
Hello listers,
I've come across some birth registrations from 1909 that have a stamp on
the bottom giving a date and place of death. The one death was from 1997
in Saskatchewan. It is rather handy since I didn't know where the family had
gone but I am rather curious about would be the purpose of doing this. What
process was being conducted after a death that would have required checking
the birth registration? Anyone know?
Joanna
