Actually that's not quite correct. The 1842 census asks how
long each individual has been "in the province" meaning how
long in Canada.

> Yes, you would have trouble finding him with those parameters as the question of when a person arrived in Canada wasn't asked until the 1901 Census. A name such as John Miller is fairly common when you only have Canada as a point of reference rather than a specific city or province.
