I need information help on a genealogical scrapbook which is ongoing.

In WW2, Canadian soldiers wore chevrons different than those of nowadays.

On one site I have found sergeant's stripes, three chevrons with the "V"
pointed downward.

However, I can't find one for a private. What I would have thought to be a
private's chevron was labeled corporal.
Were privates "slick sleeves," no stripers?

In case you're curious, the sergeant was Sgt. Michael Cassidy, the Algonquin
regimental mascot. My Uncle was the private.
