Did not Eatons and Sears do business together?
Thought there was an Eatons Sears in St. Catharines.

Hello Susan,
I don't know if this will help you or not, but there is a history of the
Eaton stores...I ran into it when inquiring about an ancestor's son I was
tracking hoping it would lead me
to others...
I came upon a woman who works at Eaton's and I wrote her and she
answered..with
some information on this ancestor...it was very nice..I hesitate to post her
name or
her email detailing this information she sent me on the internet, but if you
email me privately I will send you the particulars..the time I was asking
about was 1923 to? she found in the archives at Eaton's a file..and how
she went about it...but, if this is not of interest to you, then the
knowledge of the fact there is an Eaton historian out there...and I would
contact the store.
Carol
this is the additional info I have for you (gleaned from an Eaton
historian)...
the information is as follows (from the historian - not from my work at
all)...
The file that I found in the archives is F229 - 170 (Box 3) and is titled QC
and Long Service - Yearly Lists - L to Z.
In that file there is a list titled 1923 to 1954 and within that list there
is a notation for (my ancestor's name) Each member of the Club was given a
number in sequence and that number appeared on the certificate that was
presented. I'm fairly sure that #4280 means that he was the 4280th member
inducted. The 5000th member was inducted in 1947, so this makes sense to
me.
After his name and number on the list there is a column for "Department and
Number", and Albert's notation is 515 and then 10.
All the Eaton's files begin with "F229".
The other information that appears in the archives file is that his date
engaged was February 9, 1920, that he received a pocket watch, and that it
was presented on 5/2/45 (February 5, 1945).
from me:
You might try to track down the monthly magazines (Eaton's archives) that
might include a picture, if you get really lucky.
Good luck!!! Rita
