Hello Barbara:

According to the Ontario Locator at:

http://www.geneofun.on.ca/ontariolocator/search.html

In terms of geography - not my strongest suit - Newcastle has 3 listings and
2 are no longer in existence. Newcastle is in Durham County currently, but
was also in adjoining Northumberland County. And there was a district of
Newcastle at one time. As I see it they all broadly centre around the same
area.

I checked Canada 411 at:

http://1canada411.sympatico.ca/

I checked the OFCA cemetery listings, searchable on line at:

http://www.islandnet.com/cgi-bin/ms2/jveinot/search

No luck! There appear to be no living or dead KELLERBYs or KILLERBYs in
Ontario (and possibly Canada).

I also checked the 1881 Canadian census at the LDS site:

http://www.familysearch.org/

No luck again. However, you have probably already seen your John and Ruther
KILLERBY in the 1880 US census with their young son.

Couldn't find this household name on the 1871 Ontario census at:

http://www.collectionscanada.ca/archivianet/020108_e.html

So that suggests, Agnes & John came to Canada after that date.

There is no mention of a birth, death or marriage relating to this couple or
their son John on the Ontario Vital Statistics site at:

http://www.rootsweb.com/~onvsr/

However it's worth checking back every so often, as new records are being
added to the site by dedicated volunteers all the time.

A search of North America on the LDS IGI produced no results, but there are
lots of persons by this name in the British Isles - both England and
Scotland. I searched for the pair using both names and again no results. I
decided that if any name was misspelled on the records it would probably be
KELLERBY. So I used Agnes and the primary person married to a John and left
the surname blank In fact there is a marriage of an Agnes MacDONALD to a
John KELLY in 1846 - a long shot. There are so many marriages available that
I didn't keep looking. In any event there isn't yet a reliable link between
the UK and Canada which would help identify which is the couple - and they
could have married in Canada.

So you obviously need a heavy-hitter researcher type who can be more
creative and suggest some other ways to get a handle on this couple. Perhaps
tracking down a birth record for John might be one avenue. So come on all
your researchers out there - pitch in!

Phew! I'm exhausted. Good luck on your search.

Subject: [ONT] Kellerby in Ontario

Hi

I am new to the list and am hoping someone might be
able to tell me where to find the family of John
Kellerby and Agnes MacDonald Kellerby. Their son,
also John, married my great-aunt. His death
certificate gives the name of his parents. It also
states that his birth date and place is New Castle,
Ontario, Canada, on 9 June 1851. The 1900 census says
he immigrated to the U.S. in 1869. He married my
great-aunt, Ruth Cheetham, in 1870.

I have checked the 1881 census of Canada for his
parents, but was unable to find any Kellerbys
(sometimes spelled Killerby). I don't know what other
records are available to search.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Barbara
