Do a search on Patriot's War. I think it was a conflict with US and
Canada in 1837-38. Have done no research on it, so don't know for sure.

Why don't we learn more in school and why oh why don't we remember
it?????

Subject: [Ont] WINDSOR QUESTION

St. John the Baptist Anglican church, Sandwich (Windsor) cemetery has a
large flat stone with the flowing engraving:

SACRED
to the memory of John James Hume ESQ ?e MD
who was inhumanly murdered and his body afterwards
literally mangled by a gang of armed ruffians from
the United States ___________themselves
PATRIOTS
who committed this cowardly and shameful outing on
the morning the (sic) 4 December 1838 having intercepted
the Jac----------- coding? in to render professional assistance
to His Majesty a gallant Militia at Windsor UC in
repelling the incursions of this rebel army ? more
properly styled
PIRATES

---------------------------------------------------------------

I've gone to search engine to see what happened on that date in 1838,
but
was unsuccessful in learning what occurred.
Can someone lead me in the right direction?
Regards,
Joyce Stevens
