I just phoned my bank (Bank of Montreal) and asked what their policy was. They charge 2.75 for
cashing a US cheque unless the person has a banking plan called Unlimited Banking (or something like
that) which costs the customer $22.00 a month. I used to work for the bank up to about 5 years ago
and boy have things increased in price since then. So if they are charging all the banks likely
would too.
