I think that once upon a time a project to put the Ontario BDM indexes on
line was in the works, but fell through. I may be wrong on that one.

The note below refers to site that is the attempt to put the actual
records on line - Paula Easton set up the site, but has since been
ill. She hasn't answered any emails now for quite some time. My name,
Mary Crandall, is on that as one of the "Originators". I would like to see
something come of this project, but it needs "work". For example, the
submission format is cumbersome.

Anyhow, I have been accumulating marriage registrations on my site. I was
prepared to let Paula Easton know that I was willing to take over this
portion of the project. I do not know what the reaction would be to this
idea, from her, or from anyone else for that matter. I shall continue this
project regardless.

A conservative estimate on the number of marriages - approx. 18,000/year
(more in later years, less in earlier years) over 50 years (1869-1919)
gives 900,000 marriage. A conservative estimate on the number I have on my
website - 95 pages of marriages, with approx 250 - 300 on each.... gives
23,750 to 28,500. We've come a long way... but there's many more to go yet.

At the moment it is a searchable site. The slow part of the process is the
transcription. I have spent a few weeks trying to work a system for
"enlisting" (!) volunteers. I was going to offer an exchange - that I
would look up marriages in return for transcriptions.... i.e. I'll
photocopy the marriages you want + more if you will type them all for
me. I am not sure if it would work (i.e. what the default rate might be).

Rootsweb has no limits on the size of my site.

A week ago my cable ISP provider started causing problems. I am not really
back online, we've just managed to connect via telephone through my
husband's work computer! I had forgotten how slow the phone was.

If anyone wants to comment on this, I'd be happy to hear.... but I probably
won't be too prompt! Rogers Cable is inept I'm afraid.
