I would be willing to coordinate an effort to get all of the BMD index data
at the Ontario Archives online. I have a strong background in databases and
have been working with them professionally for many years. I have been
considering this project for quite some time. I was thinking that as the
database comes together, maybe Rootsweb, Ontario GenWeb, or another site
would like to host the free database.

The first step though would be to make sure that another group of people
have not already started such a project. It is a huge undertaking and I
would not want to duplicate efforts. I have checked the Ontario
Genealogical Society site and did not see this listed with their special
projects. I also checked Ontario GenWeb. They have a similar Census
project under way, but I didn't see anything for BMD. The Olive Tree has a
BMD Exchange. However, that is a place for individuals to post
registrations and is not intended to become a searchable database of the
Ontario Archives BMD Indexes.

Steve and Jenifer have expressed an interest in helping. If there is anyone
else that is interested in assisting with this project, or who knows of a
similar project already under way, please let me know.
