Hi,

I am trying to help an elderly man trace his grandmother. He says she moved
from Germany at age 16 about the year 1887 to live with an aunt and uncle in
Hamilton (the city), Ontario. The uncle owned a button or shoe factory.
But he does not know his name.

The grandmother Cordena (Dena) Foss or Voss appears on the 1891 census as
'Cordina Fos' living with a Martin Kartzmark and family. Martin is age 22
years and Cordina is age 22 years. So he is not the uncle. Cordina has an
infant child (Eva) also listed so perhaps she was forced to leave her
uncle's home. ?? She is not married yet.

I do not have access to the Hamilton City Directories and am hoping someone
who does will look for Cordina Foss/Voss/Fos sometime in the mid 1880's to
the 1891 census year to see where Cordina is living. If there is a listing
of button and shoe factories in the same directory, could that (owner's)
address be checked against Cordina's to see if they are the same? Or if
there is a cross reference on street addresses that shows everybody living
at that address that would be much easier. I'm hoping to find the uncle's
name this way.

If you can do this for me I'd be willing to do a look up in Detroit or
Lansing Michigan Libraries in exchange.
