Jean: From the book, "Places in Ontario" by Nick & Helma Mika, Mika
Publishing Co. Belleville, Ontario 1977:
Bailieboro - community, South Monaghan Township, Peterborough County.
The compact rural community of Bailieboro is located west of Rice Lake
on Highway 28. It is situated amidst rolling farm country and in the
Great Pine Ride tourist region. Population 126 (1971).
The area was first settled in the early 1800's by pioneers of Irish and
English descent, and a number of United Empire Loyalists.
One of the earliest buildings still standing in the community is Christ
Church which was erected in 1891 to replace the original frame Anglican
church built in 1863.
Bailieboro was part of Northumberland County until January 1, 1974, when
the township of South Monaghan and its communities became part of
Peterborough County.
