I have borrowed, from one of my aunts, a book of newspaper articles that my
g-grandmother saved and will be posting them to his site. My g-grandmother,
Elizabeth (Covey) Edwards was raised in Midland and spent her married life
in Vasey (about 20 minutes north of Barrie in Simcoe County). Hope these
help someone.

SGT. ALBERT CARTER
Son of Mrs. and A.E. Carter, Orillia, who was killed in a bombing raid on
Flensburg, in Germany, on the night of October 31. First reported missing,
he is now listed as dead. His parents have received word through the Red
Cross Society that he buried at Flensburg.

PTE. HARRY RUMNEY MAKES THE SUPREME SACRIFICE

Word was received here last Sunday night that Pte. Harry Rumney, eldest son
of Mr. and Mrs. John Rumney, Newtonville, had been killed in action.
He enlisted in the 76th Battalion in September 1915, and went overseas with
his regiment early last spring.
Pte. Rumney was one of the biggest, manliest and best-beloved of Canada's
young soldiers, and his death has caused much regret throughout the entire
community. He was 24 years of age and is survived by his mother and father,
four brothers and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held at St. John's church, Newtonville, on
Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock.

FRANK EDWARDS
Due to a heart attack the death occurred, Jan 4, of Frank Edwards, at his
home, Lot 2, Con. 4, Vasey.
Born in 1875 in Tecumseh Twp. Near Alliston, he came to Vasey as a boy with
his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Edwards, and had been a resident of
the community for the past 66 years. In 1897 he married Ada Rumney in
Penetang, who predeceased him April of last year. Mr. Edwards was a farmer,
and a member of the United Church.
Funeral service took place, Jan. 7, from his late residence, conducted by
Rev. A.K. Kaellgren. Interment was made in Vasey Cemetery. Six nephews
acted as pall-bearers: Earl Edwards, Mervin Edwards, Leslie Edwards, Harry
Runmey, Joe Brand, and Arthur Brand.
Flower bearers were: W.A. Isaac, E. Isaac, H. McClung, C. McClung, S.
McLay, M. Rachar, K. Robinson, W. Woods.
Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the service included:
Mr. and Mrs. Doug Grigg and Joan; Mrs. E. Rumney, Mrs. Mary Rumney, Miss
Joyce Rumney, Joe and Arthur Brand, all of Toronto; Mrs. O. Cronin and
Ronnie, Newtonbrook; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Jennings, Mrs. W. Bovair, Mrs. I.
Cavine, of Aurora; Mrs. and Mrs. R. English and Bill, of Alliston; and
friends from Midland, Eady, Hillsdale, Elmvale, Victoria Harbour, Waverley
and Wyebridge.
Mr. Edwards is survived by seven children: Verlma (Mrs. J. Nixon), Manley,
of Medonte Twp; Ormal, Nathan, Fred, Tay Twp; Calvin and Eleanor, at home;
one brother, W.J. Edwards, of Vasey, and 15 grandchildren, One son, Lorne,
died 10 years ago.
