I have to agree with the Grouch about relevant Subject Lines. I don't
understand why it is so hard to put the info a person is looking for in the
Subjcet line. It is so much easier to read and or delete if it doesn't
interest the other list memebers. When I first started on the lists I had
signed up for the Quebec List and it took me several tries before getting
the Subject line correct before I could even get onto the list. I think the
Subject line for our surnames should look like this and it also should be
listed in the body of the message like this:
BUTTERFIELD, Benjamin; 1610-1688; Halifax, Yorkshire, ENG>USA>MA
This gives me all of the pertintent info this person is looking for the man
above, the time frame and where he came from, where he went, and the state
he died in. Is this so hard to do? I think not. But is is a lot easier to
delete if I am not interested in this name or subject. It also gives the
person who is trying to get info on this person a better chance of getting a
response from the list because he/she has listed the surname in the Subjcet
line than if he/she just put the word INTERESTS in the subject line. This
word doesn't tell me a thing, and I just delete it wothout reading. I much
prefer to read the messages in the hopes that I might find some info that
pertains to me.
So why is it that we cannot post in the Subject line who or what we are
asking for or looking for when it saves so much time in the long run? What
is the solution? I have tried to inform new listers on how they should do
this but I don't seem to make much headway.
