Marriage Banns were not only used in the Catholic Church, but I have copies
of some from the Anglican, Baptist and the Methodist, now United.
The banns were often interesting, e.g. my gr.gr.grandfather and the co-signer
for the bann, would have to pay 100 Pounds to the bride "should there be
any impediment to the marriage". These papers are priceless, but do not
give parentage, which would have taken the couple back one generation.
