Dear Lori-Ann

This post it to state that I absolutely agree with you. Unless the person
who is giving you the info is purporting to be some sort of professional
genealogist or is charging you a fee, then just be grateful and don't make
the poor soul feel ashamed for work that probably took a lot of time and
effort.

Volunteers who provide bits and scraps of information are generally doing so
because they genuinely want to give a bit of help back, not everyone aspires
to become a Certified Genealogist/Accredited Genealogist.

Vanessa

Subject: OFF TOPIC - Please be kind to Random Acts of Kindness

>(Not to step on any toes, or receive hundreds of emails but.......)

>A volunteer looked up an obit for me and I reciprocated by offering these
obituaries to others. I did it as my contribution for what every other
volunteer out there has done for me in my search for my family tree.
>Unfortunately, I was also hit with many emails advising what should be
included with this information. How it should appear i.e. Brackets on city
names, streets, provinces etc. THIS WAS DONE AS A RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS and
I am not a professional researcher. I copied word for word, spelling
mistakes, punctuations etc. My intention was to contribute back to others.
>It is my opinion that to copy these items the way they are printed, is the
closest that some of us may ever get to "the real thing" in our files. I
would also like to add that I spent many hours (more than 5 alone just last
night) typing out 15 very very difficult obits from 1963 and 26 obits from
1974 with 19 memoriams.
>Before anyone thinks "I want a medal"... I don't. Random Acts are just
that. Random Acts of Kindness/Genealogy for our fellow researchers. Much
of the information that comes to anyone for transcribing that has been on a
bad microfiche or barely legible, requires a magnifying glass to figure them
out. They are copies of copies that people have handled for in some cases
years.

>Unless you have transcribed any information yourself, please be kind and
take what is offered? You have no idea what comes into the hands of
volunteers. :o)

>Thanks all and Happy Hunting.
