Sorry John I disagree with your stand on look-ups. You are being far too
restrictive.
If we are talking only about published books and their copyrights perhaps I
can agee in theory. Not everyone is prepared to order an expensive book on
the chance that their ancestor might be mentioned in it. Not everyone has
the time and/or money to travel to the location where the records they need
to access exist.

Why does this mailing list exist if we cannot help each other.
