Hi Randy
Unfortunately there is no index in the book. The surname Burkholer is
far more prominent in the Hamilton Mountain area anyway, as a matter of
a fact there is a Burkholder Cemetery on Mohawk Road and Upper Wentworth
Street. THere is another book I have called "A Mountain and a City, the
Story of Hamilton", which has references to the Burkholder Family. It
index's Jacob Burkholder, as a settler near the corner of what is now
Upper Sherman Street and Mohawk, and how he walked from Pennsylvania to
this area and back to inspect and report on the land promised settlers
bu John Grave Simcoe. Jacob's great granddaughter, Mabel Burkholder,
was a writer for the Hamilton Spectator, and is the other Burkholder
listed
in this book. If you contact the Hamilton Branch of the OGS they would
not only have, I believe, a Family Tree for the Burkholders but also
will sell you a copy of the Burkholder Cemetery listings transcribed.
I haven't come across any Vollicks yet. I will keep this on file and if
anything comes up I will let you know.
