I think that we should be looking at mailing lists like this not
just as a research tool, but also as a way to learn (I'll spare you
all the same old arguements about knowing about the times in which our
ancestors lived). What I appreciate about this list is that
non-genealogy threads, while present, are not more common than
genealogical questions - at least not yet ;-)
It's nice to learn about our families past, but what I don't
appreciate is coming home from work and finding 150-200 messages in my
in-box, only half of which have anything to do with genealogy. Some
mailing lists seem to be almost totaly out of control.
