Jean,
As I've mentioned previously, the First Families organization for the
Jackson county OGS is very much still in the planning stages. Guidelines for
admission have NOT been established. Give us a month or two as there is much
to be considered and planned for.
Records and family history files from the early '80's when the FF
organization was initially formed by the JCOGS do not appear to exist, at
least not that can be determined. That will NOT happen again. All First
Families applications and accompanying "proof of
descendancy" documentation info going forward will be digitized and kept in
our own database as will the original records, which will likely be kept
under lock and key - at least they should be. Just my opinion....
You may be confusing those First Family records with other ones that are in
a file cabinet at our library. Those are simply family history records that
may be of use to someone in their research. The validity and accuracy of
those records shared with the JCOGS through the years have never been
scrutinized and won't be - at least by the JCOGS. They are simply reference
sources for anyone doing family genealogy research.
I hope this helps clear things up!
