Subject: Regarding roll calls
Date: Wed, 25 Jan 2006 18:49:53 -0800
This was recently posted on the Kentucky Mail List:
As list administrator for the Kentucky-L list, it is my policy to NOT hold
rollcalls. This list has a large subscriber base and many of you/them are
also subbed to other high-volume lists. There are actually those that will
unsubscribe from the lists due to the high volume of mail that a rollcall
generates, they just can't keep up.
Having said that, you're welcome to post information about who you're
researching - but please give something more than just a surname. A
county/region/area, time frame, first names and other such information will
actually allow others to find you more easily.
In many instances, if you're actually seeking help, if only a surname is
posted with no additional information, others will be less likely to try to
find information that will help. As an example, does anyone know how many
"Smith"s, "Jones" and "Brown"s there are in KY? Without more specific
information, I'd be surprised if many would search for information that
you're looking for as they wouldn't have a clue where to start trying to
weed out your family information from the large number of individuals with
one of these surnames.
