Gayle Gardner died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, after a vehicle accident in
Joplin, Mo. Gayle's husband, Glen Gardner,died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006 as a
result of the same accident.

Mrs. Gardner was born Nov. 20, 1940, in Wichita, the daughter of Fred
and Sarah Oliver Woods. She graduated from Mulvane High School and
Kansas State Teachers College with a degree in elementary education. She
lived most of her adult life in the Emporia (Kansas) area.

Mrs. Gardner was an archivist for Lyon County Historical Museum and a
professional genealogist. She was a member of Flint Hills Genealogical
Society, Kansas State Historical Society, Lyon County Republican Women,
Eastern Star and a 4-H member and leader. She published numerous
historical and genealogical books of families and area towns.

Gayle Woods Graham Gardner descended from Julius & Sarah Smart Hoffman
as well as several other families from Clearcreek Township, Fairfield
County, Ohio.

Gayle visited Fairfield County many times over the last 13 years to do
research as well as corresponding with several people from Fairfield
County over the last 20-30 years. Many of the members of the local
genealogical society knew her.

The genealogical community lost a treasure when Gayle passed away. She
will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her!
