Lisa,
During the 1950's I lived on Pleasantville Road just south of the Mudhouse
Road intersection with Pleasantville Road. There was a mudhouse at the
northeast corner of that intersection where lived an old man named Frank and
his sister. I don't recall his family name but I always understood that that
house was the mudhouse from which the road was named. The house was a roughly
square two story place that appeared to have been made from mortar and
fieldstone. It was in poor condition then and I think it's gone now. It did
not qualify as a mansion but perhaps that's the place you're thinking of.
Frank used to walk down to our place in the fall and winter and sort apples
in our storage barn. I worked along side him many days and he told stories
about his past. My father bought our orchard from Isaac Brandt in 1950 and
sold it in 1957. I moved away from Lancaster at that time and don't know
what happened to the mudhouse. Perhaps someone else will be able to help us
on that question.
