The old cemeteries in Clermont County do not have sextons to take care of
them. They are usually under the jurisdiction of the township that they
are in. Amelia is a bit difficult because it is in 3 dif. townships. The
genealogy society, historical society, boy scouts etc. have done what they
can to clean up old cemeteries but you just wouldn't believe how hard it is
to find volunteers. It is next to impossible. The townships mow the
cemeteries about twice a year or so but they are short handed too and have
to take care of roads and cemeteries and especially the ones that are
active.
Your best bet is to look at the MONUMENT INSCRIPTION BOOK done by the DAR.
The society also composed a complete index to that book so you don't have
to look in 12 or so different sections for your name. It is not attached
to the Monument book because it is already 4 inches thick. It is in a
separate book. The index was for sale so some libraries around the country
may have one. You can also write to the Society for a look-up in the index
and they will also copy the pages from the Monument book. You do not have
to be a member of the society. Send a SASE to PO Box 394, Batavia, OH
45103 and give them plenty of time to answer - here again they are
volunteers and do not charge except for postage and copy fees which are
$.10 per page.
