Mike,
Thank you for your apology and your further explanation of the posts I questioned. Obviously Clan O'Brien is a worthy endeavor and your deep commitment is apparent. As a genealogist and an O'Brien descendant I fully understand and applaud your involvement and generosity. And I will certainly take the opportunity to peruse the Clan O'Brien website.
My concern arose from an "appearance" of possible solicitation to members of this list. I know it can be a bit of a "catch 22"; you want to inform members of an event, etc., that you feel would be of interest, but when it involves expenditure and/or the sale of items from which a profit is anticipated (even when the profit is disbursed for worthy causes) it borders on a violation of list usage. I am as interested as other list members in exploring all things "O'Brien", and I appreciate your effort to pass information on to me - perhaps in the future it would be best if a simple, short post was made stating that an event, service, or product can be found at your website and invite list members to go there for further information. Please, I don't want to start an ongoing discussion on the pros and cons of what should or should not be posted to lists, we already have clear directions from rootsweb on the guidelines. You have graciously addressed my concerns and explained y!
our intent. Again I thank you for your response.
So...back to the fun stuff. Like you, Mike, I am waiting for that message that will finally give me a lead on my own Michael O'Brien, born in Ireland (no dates or place), married 22 Feb. 1854 in McLean County, IL to Mary Murphy (possibly Mary Murphy Hawkins?), they moved on to IA raised a family of 6-7, among them Anna Loretta (O'Brien) Bickford - my great grandmother. Other than those names, which were found in Anna L.(O'Brien) Bickfords obit, and the marriage which was located in the IL state IRAD data base, I have found only one other reference to Michael O'Brien; that he was living, as a widower, with his daughter Anna and her husband Luther Bickford in Worth County, IA at the time of the 1880 census. In the 1900 census Anna and Luther Bickford are in Wadena County, MN and Michael O'Brien is not mentioned. I would of course, like to find when and where Michael O'Brien was born, when he emigrated, who his parents/siblings were, where and when he died, and the same inf!
ormation on his wife Mary Murphy, as well as their other children. Any other O'Briens researching this line? It's a real brick wall for me.
Regards,
Kate Lynn
