Hi Jackie,

I haven't worked on the Pidgeons (not related), but I was interested in
Walter because he was from Saint John and I found him while looking at
one of my DeLongs (Dora) on the same page of the census. Walter's
father was Burpee Pigeon, age 33 in 1881 & he was "C.B." Pigeon in
1901. I think his first name was Charles. You say your "grandmother" had
a brother, Charles, on the 1851 Kingston census. Any chance he was about
3 years old at the time?

"C.B. Pidgeon, aka Burpee Pidgeon, was married twice. Walter was from
m2. I have a blurb on him I downloaded along with a photo of the home
where he grew up. He and 2 older half-brothers served in the Canadian
Military during WWI.

I think the preceding will let you follow the commentary and data
below. I hope it helps.

And "gee," if you're related, I'll have to get your signature!<g>

Good luck finding what you want,

Bill

At age 13, Walter was Saint John's youngest newspaper boy when
he debuted at the Imperial Theatre as a baritone singer. At age 17, he
enrolled at the University of New Brunswick, but left to enlist in the
Canadian Artillery a year later. In Toronto, Ontario, when two gun
carriages shifted and trapped him, he spent sixteen months in hospital and
his military career was over. Back in Boston, he worked night shift in the
mail room of a stock broker and attended singing school. He was spotted
in amateur theatre by Fred Astaire, who introduced him to Elsie Janis and
he toured with her for two years. Although silent movies were being made
and he was a singer, his rugged good looks caught the attention of the
movie industry. Greer Garson, who played with him in 8 movies, said he
was Hollywood's only gentleman. He never raised his voice, or said a bad
word about anyone. His trademark was that he was always well dressed.
Walter Pidgeon died in Santa Monica, California, on September 25, 1994.

My grandmother Mary Amelia Mills was born in Kingston kings Co NB. She was
born to George Mills and Catherine B Pidgeon. I have found out that
Catherine is relation to the actor Walter Pidgeon. All I know about
Catherine that she would have been about 29 in 1851 from the census of
Kingston which would have made her born about 1822. I don't know her parents
names. Catherine was from the parish of springfield. On the census of 1851
my grandmother although she wasn't born yet had siblings Charles, William H,
george F and Rachal jane. Rachal was not on the census in 1861. George and
Catherine married Jan 4 1840 with a Charles Pidgeon and an Adeline Mills as
witness. If anyone could help me I would really appreciate the info of either
the parents of Catherine Pidgeon or who Adeline Mills and Charles Pidgeon
would be . Thank you so much janice Young 5441 hwy 75 south cleveland Ga
