This excerpt from the newspaper describes part of the Evans family I am researching. Does anyone know if the "Evans Homestead" exists at Greenbay or anything else about the place described? Nyrum owned land in section 55 and 62 according to the maps/index of 1866 from the Gainesville website. Thanks again. Jody Allen

April 6, 1893 - Gainesville - The funeral of Nyrum Evans, of this place, was held from the family residence at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, April 1, 1893. He died on Wednesday P.M. at 3:45. Mr. Evans was born at Greenbay in the town of Gainesville on February 11, 1836, at the old Evans' homestead, being the third of a family of eight children, six boys and two girls. He was twice married, his first wife being Sarah A. Knapp, daughter of William Knapp of this village. Of this union five children were born, only one of whom is living, Mr. Fred Evans of this town. In 1876, Mr. Evans married Emma Eldridge, the wife who mourns his loss. Three children were born to them, of whom Howard Evans is the only one living. (Abbrev.)

Have you visited the Gainesville website?
The cemeteries are all transcribed, as are some church records, and indexed
map, and more.
Do you have access to the census? I have a copy of the Gainesville census
published by the WyCo. Historian's office I can lookup if you want.
Good Luck,

Obituary of Robert R. Evans: Carson City Bee, Thurs. Aug 6m 1885, Pg1,
Column 4:
Robert Evens, the subject of this memoir, was born in Oneida Co., NY in
A.D. 1812, and had numbered 78 years when his master called him from labor
to reward, on the afternoon of Monday the 20th day of July 1885.
When Robert was seven years of age, the family removed to Gainsville,
N.Y. where he grew to man's estate.
Here, at the age of 22 he was united in marriage to Miss Sallie Farnham
of Gainsville in the year 1833, - 51 years ago.
He removed from Gainsville to Michigan in '45 or 40 years ago, and
settled in North Plains where he worked hard on his farm and reared his
large family of children, all sons, excepting one Mrs. Kelley, of Crystal.
Robert Evens became a christian just as he became of age, and joined
the Methopist (As spelled) Episcopal Church.
