I don't know if this will help or only confuse things more. But I grew
up in Bellport, and so am familiar with a good bit of the south shore
of eastern Long Island. When I first read the original post, I couldn't
help but recognize the similarity between Tarman's and Carman's. A
number of geologic places around were called Carman's this or
Carman's that. In fact, if memory serves me correctly, the eastern
boundary of Bellport was Carman's river, which emptied into the
Great South Bay.

I think you maybe on to something here, as I read the original post I
couldn't help but think of Fireplace Neck Road in the hamlet of Brookhaven which is
in Brookhaven Township and in very close proximity to Carmen's river
